Playstation Store Update Coming March 8th

The big surprise this week is the amount of Playstation games. Sony has eluded they intend on making the Classics market more respectable and so far they have delivered. With their recent addition of classics such as Vagrant Story and Xenogears, they have added some of the better games of the era. This weeks edition doesn’t necessarily have any major standouts, aside from maybe Mega Man 3, but it adds a decent variety of mid-level classics.

Playstation Plus members will get first access to the upcoming game, Mortal Kombat, one week before everyone else. The demo will be released to the general public on March 15th. As always the Qore episode will be free to PSN+ subscribers. Finally, whichever games win the Gamer’s Choice Awards(results announced March 7) will be 50% off for Plus subscribers whereas the general public will only receive 30% off.

Sony’s NGP to be Four Times as Powerful as Prior Handhelds

The 2011 Game Developer’s Conference was very productive for two upcoming handheld game systems, the Nintendo 3DS and Sony NGP. Both were brought to the forefront of the gaming industry this week with each revealing interesting tidbits. As we know the 3DS will have Netflix and announced some decent games that will be available. Sony stole the spotlight though, when it was revealed that the NGP will be four times as powerful as any other prior handheld, namely the Ipad 1. This information brought both disappointment and amazement as many people anticipated this device to be as powerful as a console, whilst others were a bit more realistic in assuming it would just be better than its predecessor, the PSP.

As if that wasn’t enough, Sony revealed that the game cartridges will hold anywhere from 2GB to 4GB which greatly surpasses the PSP’s 900MB to 1.8GB. Each game cartridge will devote 5% to 10% to saved data and patches however. In addition to the game cartridges having memory, the system itself will have removable memory. The format and capacity has yet to be revealed, but one can speculate that it will be Sony’s own Memory Stick.

Playstation Store Update Coming March 1st

It is that time of the week again. The Playstation Store is adding more inventory. This week’s update features two PS3 games, one PS1 classic, and five demos (so far). Pixeljunk Shooter 2 is the big surprise this week. The much acclaimed sequel has finally arrived and will only be $9.99. Be sure to pick this up if you enjoyed the original game. Modnation Racers will join the ranks of retail games available for download. The game will be listed at $29.99 and I imagine there will be the usual free 60 minute trial to Playstation Plus Members.

Another shocking addition to this week’s update is Vagrant Story. Sony is finally starting to expand upon the PS1 Classics for the US Playstation Store. Now if only they would add Tail Concerto, I would be a happy man. As for Vagrant Story it is another one of Square Enix’s masterpieces. The company always provides the best RPGs on the market and this is no exception. So if you enjoy Final Fantasy or Xenogears, be sure to try this out. It will be on sale for $5.99.

Playstation Plus members have a bit to be excited about. They will be getting four free games this month. Sonic the Hedgehog, Spyro Year of the Dragon, Pix’n Love Rush, and Enigmo will be available all throughout the month of March. If you have not downloaded the free games for the month of February, today is the final day before the update.
